Adjusting the Double-Click Threshold on Windows & macOS

This guide explains how to change the time window your operating system uses to decide whether two clicks count as a double click. A shorter window requires faster clicks; a longer window allows more time between presses.

Windowsの設定 > Bluetoothとデバイス > マウスでダブルクリック速度を調整できます。速度を下げるとクリック間の時間が増え、高速なダブルタップが必要になります。

What you're changing: The OS compares the time between two presses of the primary mouse button. If it's under the threshold, it registers a double click. The setting is exposed as a slider: "faster" = shorter time; "slower" = longer time.

Windows

Windows 11 (24H2 and newer)

Build 26100.4202+ adds a direct slider in Settings.

Go to Accessibility → Mouse.
Adjust Double-click speed to taste.

Windows 11 (22H2–23H2) & Windows 10

Use the classic Mouse Properties dialog.

Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse (Win 11) or Settings → Devices → Mouse (Win 10).
Click Additional mouse settings to open Mouse Properties.
On the Buttons tab, move the Double-click speed slider and test with the folder icon. Click OK.

macOS 15 Sequoia

Open System Settings from the  menu.
Go to Accessibility → Pointer Control.
Adjust the Double-click speed slider.

macOS 14 Sonoma

Open System Settings from the  menu.
Go to Accessibility → Pointer Control.
Adjust the Double-click speed slider.

macOS 13 Ventura

Open System Settings from the  menu.
Go to Accessibility → Pointer Control.
Adjust the Double-click speed slider.

Quick Notes (macOS)

The setting lives at Accessibility → Pointer Control in Ventura (13), Sonoma (14), and Sequoia (15).
Apple renamed “System Preferences” to System Settings starting with Ventura.
If you used pre‑Ventura versions, the location was similar but under the old preferences UI.

Testing & Troubleshooting

Test correctly

Windows: Use the folder icon in Mouse Properties → Buttons tab to test recognition.
macOS: Try double‑clicking a file or folder in Finder or selecting a word in a text field.

Common pitfalls

Windows: In File Explorer, ensure Double-click to open an item is selected (Folder Options → General). Also confirm ClickLock is off (Mouse Properties → Buttons).
Hardware: Clean switches, verify batteries or charging, avoid wireless interference, and try another USB port or mouse.
Drivers/Software: Update vendor tools (Logitech Options/G Hub, Razer Synapse, etc.) and Windows/macOS updates.
macOS: Don’t confuse Spring-loading (drag-and-hold to open folders) with double-click speed—it's a different preference.
