A word counter tallies the words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in a block of text — but a good one tells you more. This tool gives you real-time counts plus estimated reading time (based on 238 words per minute) and speaking time (130 words per minute), so you can size a blog post, email, or speech to its audience. It also flags when text exceeds the SEO meta-title limit (60 characters), meta-description limit (160 characters), or a tweet (280 characters). Teachers and students can track essays against assigned ranges; copywriters watch readability; developers pre-validate form inputs. Everything runs in your browser — no text is uploaded, logged, or stored.
Drop any text into the editor. Counts and metrics update as you type with no click required.
The stats grid shows words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs, unique words, and the longest word.
Use the estimated reading time to plan blog posts or emails, and the speaking time to time a speech or presentation.
Colored bars flag when you exceed tweet, meta-title, meta-description, or headline length targets — useful for SEO and social posts.
Convert the text to uppercase, lowercase, title case, or sentence case with a single click, then copy the result.
Words = non-empty tokens split on Unicode whitespace Characters = total Unicode code points (spaces included) Chars no spaces = code points excluding whitespace Sentences = segments ending in . ? ! (abbreviation-aware) Paragraphs = blocks separated by one or more blank lines Reading time = words ÷ 238 (Medium silent-reading benchmark) Speaking time = words ÷ 130 (Toastmasters public-speaking avg)
Word counts use Unicode whitespace splitting so they handle emoji, accented characters, and CJK punctuation without miscounting. Reading and speaking rates come from published benchmarks: Medium's 238 wpm silent-reading average and the Toastmasters 125-150 wpm range for natural public speaking.
