Sustainability is finally starting to matter in the tech world. The good news is that big companies are now using recycled materials. The bad news? It's complicated.
You might see labels like "PCR" (Post-Consumer Recycled) on boxes now. This isn't just marketing fluff.
Almost 80% of their products now use recycled plastic. If you buy a regular office mouse from them, it's likely made from old electronics.
They have a specialized mouse made with 20% plastic recovered from oceans. It's a small step, but a cool one.
Here is the awkward truth: Recycled plastic is often weaker or heavier than virgin plastic.
If you want a sub-50g gaming mouse, engineers currently have to use fresh, high-grade plastic (or magnesium) to keep it strong enough so it doesn't crack in your hand. So for now: Office mice are getting greener, but high-end gaming mice are lagging behind.
