Keep a Windows laptop touchpad available while an external mouse is connected.
If the touchpad returns immediately after removing the mouse, a Windows or OEM “disable while mouse is connected” policy is more likely than failed touchpad hardware.
Connect and disconnect the external mouse twice while testing touchpad movement.
Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad and expand the main touchpad control where available.
Select Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected, or the exact OEM equivalent.
If the option is absent, consult the laptop manual for its touchpad function key or firmware setting.
Enable the Windows or OEM simultaneous-use option.
Use only the shortcut or firmware option documented for the exact laptop.
The option prevents accidental palm or touchpad input when an external mouse is preferred.
