Use Mouse Keys to Control the Pointer with Your Keyboard
Mouse Keys lets you steer the pointer with the numeric keypad or other keys—handy when your mouse stops working or for accessibility.
What you're changing: Keyboard keys send pointer movement and clicks; normal keyboard input is suspended while active.
Windows & macOS
Windows
- Press Windows logo key + U to open Accessibility settings.
- Choose Mouse and enable Mouse keys.
- Adjust Pointer speed and use the numeric keypad to move (
8
up,2
down,5
click, etc.). - Quick toggle: Left Alt + Left Shift + Num Lock.
macOS
- Open System Settings → Accessibility → Pointer Control.
- Enable Mouse Keys under Alternate control methods.
- Use Options to set initial delay, max speed and whether the Option key toggles the feature.
- When active, use 7 8 9 U O J K L (or the keypad) to move, I to left‑click and M to right‑click.
Tips & Troubleshooting
- Ensure Num Lock is on in Windows.
- Remember to disable Mouse Keys when entering numbers.
- An external keypad can make the feature easier on laptops.
