Reducing Mouse Lag & Input Delay
Laggy pointers ruin accuracy. Wired and 2.4 GHz wireless mice usually deliver lower latency than Bluetooth. Use these tips to reduce input delay and stuttering across operating systems.
Tip: For the lowest latency, use a wired connection or the manufacturer’s 2.4 GHz dongle when available.
Windows
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse and disable Pointer trails.
- Keep the 2.4 GHz dongle close to the mouse. Avoid USB hubs or front-panel ports.
- Remove sources of wireless interference such as routers.
- Update mouse drivers and Windows.
macOS
- Prefer wired or dongle connections for gaming; Bluetooth adds more delay.
- Charge or replace the mouse battery.
- Move metal objects away from the receiver or computer.
- Install the latest macOS and vendor software updates.
Linux
- Disable desktop effects that animate the pointer.
- Verify polling rate with
evtest
or similar utilities. - Keep receivers away from interference and update firmware.
- Use wired or dongle connections for minimal latency.
