Change Mouse Scroll-Wheel Speed
The scroll wheel controls how far a page moves with each notch. This guide shows how to slow or speed up scrolling in Windows 10/11 and modern macOS.
What you're changing: The OS decides how many lines or an entire screen move for each wheel tick.
Windows & macOS
Windows
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse.
- Under Scrolling, adjust Lines to scroll at a time or pick One screen at a time.
- Classic route: Control Panel → Mouse → Wheel lets you set vertical and horizontal amounts.
- Advanced: edit
WheelScrollLines
inHKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Control Panel\\Desktop
.
macOS
- Open System Settings → Mouse.
- Drag the Scrolling speed slider to taste.
- Magic Mouse or trackpad options may appear under Accessibility → Pointer Control → Mouse & Trackpad.
Tips & Troubleshooting
- Vendor utilities for gaming mice can override OS scrolling.
- Clean the wheel and update drivers if behaviour is erratic.
- Scroll preferences apply per user account.
