Enable Animated Cursor Effects, Trails & Sonar
Want to add some flair to your desktop or make your cursor easier to track? Windows and macOS have built-in visibility features, and third-party tools can transform your cursor entirely.
Windows Settings
Enable Pointer Trails
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Click on Additional mouse settings.
- Go to the Pointer Options tab.
- Check Display pointer trails and adjust the length slider.
Enable Sonar Locator
- In the Pointer Options tab, look for Visibility.
- Check the box: Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key.
- Click Apply. Now, pressing CTRL will show a ripple effect around your cursor.
macOS Settings
Shake to Find
- Open System Settings > Accessibility.
- Select Display.
- Ensure Shake mouse pointer to locate is enabled. Rapidly moving the mouse will temporarily enlarge the cursor.
✨ Third-Party Tools
For fully animated cursors (fire, lightning, etc.), tools like CursorFX (Stardock) or YoloMouse (Steam) allow you to apply complex skins and effects that go beyond default OS options.
